'Turning Over a New Leaf' - Still Waters

Before we get into the 'new business', if you came by looking for my BATTLE OF THE BANDS post, just click back one. Voting is still open until early morning on the 21st, so please, go back and have a listen and cast your vote. Then come back here and see what I've been up to.

And now for my next trick... Keeping up with my 'Turning Over A New Leaf Series...

I like to take pictures. I don't think I'm anywhere near good enough to be called a 'real photographer', but I guess you gotta call anyone who stands behind the camera the photographer of the moment.

I live in a very photographic place, so I like to go out and see what the 'lens' has to say. Every so often I stumble upon a picture that is fairly unique. A few weeks ago, Olaf and I (oh, I don't think I have introduced you to Olaf yet)

There he is, my buddy Olaf, a six month old white Schnauzer, who does not sport one of them sissy Schnauzer haircuts. He's seventeen pounds of pure fun, boundless energy, and limitless love!

Anyway...a few weeks ago Olaf and I were at the beach just snooping around and Olaf thought he found a ball in the water.

Being only six months old and somewhat afflicted with Schnauzer ADD, ADHD, or whatever they call that 'oh look a chicken' syndrome today, Olaf lost interest pretty quickly, but not so with me. I got down in the sand and started snapping pictures. when I got home and had a good look, here's what I found.

I call it 'Still Waters'.  Courtesy of the crystal clear blue water of Lake Tahoe. Kinda cool, huh? I thought so.

Olaf and I will be back, hopefully with more interesting pics some time soon. Until then...Happy Trails!

  1. That is an awesome shot. If I didn't know it was floating in water, I'd think it was levitating somehow. Very cool! :)

    1. If I was really smart, I wouldn't have told you guys it was floating in water and asked you to guess how I did that.

  2. Nice to meet Olaf! And I think you'll find they have only a passing interest of things we find beautiful... especially if another of their ilk has peed nearby in the last, say, six months. That last pic is cool!

    1. You aren't a kidding about that passing interest thing. This guy goes about a hundred miles a minute on everything.

Glad you you liked my pic.

  3. Being also of a camera frame of mind, I love seeing photos others take, and I hope you will show us many more. I don't know the area you live in, but I have heard it's very nice. That is a great shot, IMO! You have framed it well, clear and sharp. and seeing it makes us wonder how the shot came to be. . .Don't forget to thank your pup for pointing out the subject matter.

    1. Thanks DG. Coming from you that's really a compliment. I've seen some of your photos and they are really good.

Olaf got an extra treat for pointing that one out to me.

    1. Yeah, that pic is almost creepy when you don't know what it is.

Olaf is great fun, but he has his moments.

  6. Olaf seems temporarily fascinated. Wow, it that a sea creature of a type of pod? It does appear to be levitating. I love the blue-blue water with the golden sand that hints displays as orange when wet. Those are opposites on the color wheel.
Lovely photo, congratulations on the find!

    1. I'm with you, 'pooh' on labels. Glad you enjoyed them. I hope to be posting more. I'm out of town this week, and next, but hopefully we'll have some equine shots coming up.

  8. That is truly some clear water. If you hadn't mentioned it was a pine cone I'd have never figured it out. I thought it was something like a sea urchin or whatever it is that might look like that.

I should get my camera and take some pictures of the traffic in my neighborhood.

    1. Traffic could be interesting, especially at night!

It is an unusual picture of something very ordinary.

  9. Very neato photo. The B side of a pine cone, eh? Whaddaya call the picture? "Levitating Backside"?
