I think it’s about time to wrap this
crazy roll up here on my BATTLE OF THE BANDS and this was a fine way to do it.
I’ve always liked this song by Paul Simon
and I didn’t use his version in this BATTLE. Because I figured he would run off
with the show, but as I scrolled through the many covers at YouTube I found
several very good renditions.
I found it really, Really, REALLY
interesting that two of my voters said they would have voted for Karen
Carpenter over Paul himself. When I started out with this BATTLE, I’m not sure
I would have said that but I have become a believer.
I admit I’m not the Karen Carpenter fan
some of you are (I’m looking at your STMC), but her version of this tune is
absolutely perfect. Maybe it has something to do with the accompanying video,
and everything we know about her life today. Maybe it has to do with the fact
that she recorded the album LOVELINES, far from her brother’s influence, and
then it was never released. When it was, post humorously, this song was not
included. I don’t know, but it seems to be one more tragedy in the Karen
Carpenter story.
Anyway…I DO like James Taylor. As I said
in my comments, I saw him in person once. It was a great concert, nice and
mellow. Most of his stuff is pretty easy to listen to, not raucous or exciting,
but nice. I think he did a fine job of covering ‘Still Crazy…’ just not good
enough to match the overall emotion in Karen’s version. For a while there it
looked like another shut-out, but in the end James managed enough votes to make
a presentable showing.
The final tally is:
Karen
Carpenter 12 votes including mine
James
Taylor 5 votes
Thank you one and all for your continued
support of BATTLE OF THE BANDS and a hearty welcome to all the new
participants. I hope it just keeps growing and growing. I’ll be back on the 15th
with something special for ya all.
Also, on the 15th don‘t forget
about…
A
blogger friend of mine is in some trouble. Melissa Bradley has been diagnosed
with, and is undergoing treatment for cancer. Melissa’s good friend Michael
DiGesu is hosting a Blog Hop to help her out.
This is your chance to help Melissa, and
have yourself published in an Anthology of Humorous, Inspirational, and or
Heart Warming Stories about cancer. Unfortunately, in this day and age there
isn’t a one of us who hasn’t been touched by this dread disease. Surely you
have a story you could share.
I have pretty much given up joining in on
Blog Hops. Heck about all I publish at my space anymore is BOTB, but you see,
I’m a cancer survivor, and I can’t pass up a chance to help someone out who is
going through the physical, emotional, and spiritual upheaval that cancer can
be; even if it does mean talking about myself.
So, go over to Michael’s Blog by clicking HERE. Sign up for the Hop. Come back here on September 15th, when
I’ll have another terrific BOTB and my contribution to the ‘Big C Hop’, served
up right here.

A win well deserved indeed
ReplyDeleteYou're a survivor? That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteNot at all surprised that KC won this one; her version was outstanding.
ReplyDeleteI can only speak for myself, but I love when someone shares their story... particularly if it is inspiring. And beating cancer is pretty darn inspiring!!!

ReplyDeleteDon't be looking at my STMC!
You don't see me going around staring at your

Good to see Karen take home the win. James Taylor is way too mellow for me. His music isn't bad, just not something I'd listen to on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteAnd those sunflowers are awesome! Mine don't even look half that good.
I do like JT, but Karen outshone him with her version of this song.
ReplyDeleteI'm still thinking on the Big C event. I certainly have stories to share.
Thanks for including a tribute to Tina in this post.

Beautiful shot of the flowers. Nice tribute.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see Karen take this one home.
And great, big, huge thanks again with all of your help on my short story. You're always such a great source of encouragement, and I love knowing that I can always count on you. THANK YOU.
Poor Melissa; and the blogs will not be the same without Tina.
