IWSG - INSECURITIES BE GONE

It’s time for another posting of the Insecure writer’s Support Group. I’m not feeling particularly insecure today, but stick around that could change at the drop of a hat.

If you want to know more about the group, or read what other Insecure Writer’s have to say go HERE to check out the Linky list. Please take the time to thank Mr. Cavanaugh and all of his helpers for this month and for the other IWSG projects they work at to benefit all of us.

This question for this month’s posting is:

What is your favorite aspect of being a writer?

You know, that’s a harder question than one might think, at least for me. There are so many things I like about being a writer.
·
I   I get to tell stories.
·         I love the stress and anxiety.
·         The sleepless nights when my characters won’t leave me alone.
·         The nail biting after a submission, even if only to a CP.
·         I can ‘work’ in my pajamas.

OK seriously, folks, probably the best part is getting to tell stories. I have only been writing for about five or six years now, but I have genuinely loved to tell stories for most of my life. Not always a good thing, but I love it none the less.

Today, I’m riding on the ‘high’ of just having sent off my submission into the IWSG Anthology Contest. Not at all sure if I’m good enough to win a spot in the Anthology, but I sure am stoked about completing my entry and sending it in. For this insecure writer that is more than half the BATTLE.

What about you? Did you enter the Anthology Contest? Do you love to tell stories? Are you insecure? Tell me all about it.

  1. Loving to tell stories is a great reason indeed. Yeah, some nights the damn characters won't go out of your head haha

    1. Isn't that the truth, they can really be a bother.

  2. Never say never! The winner from last year didn't even think she'd make the cut, so anything can happen.

    1. Well I'm hopeful, at least, and very grateful that I got it together enough to enter.

  3. Telling stories is such a great feeling. Sleepless nights is a fact of life for a writer--esp. when those pesky characters want you to get up and write. BTW, I love the picture at the top.

    1. Thank you Diane, that's home for me. Yeah, sleepless nights are a fact of life for writers. If it isn't the charters, it's the plot or a new for a location, or something else I need to fix.

  4. I love to tell stories, too! And, I subbed to IWSG, but I'm not sure . . . well, you know, the waiting part is my least favorite part of writing and submitting.

    1. Waiting is the hardest part, to quote Tom Petty. I'm trying to put it out of my mind. with the Holidays coming up that shouldn't be too hard to do. Good Luck to you,

  6. My favourite part of being a writer is writing those stories down too. And good on you for submitting to the anthology! That has always been my struggle - just the thought of sending my work out I find nerve-wracking. I guess that's one of the reasons why I blog as it's a great way of putting myself 'out there'. Best of luck with your entry! :)

    1. Thanks Debbie. Submitting is hard, but now that that's in the past, the waiting to know if the real killer.

  7. I know, just writing at all is awesome! I got mine submitted too, barely in time. I had writing it, getting into the characters, figuring out their world.

And, getting to work in my pj's is totally the best part, lol.

  8. Good luck with your anthology entry! I love getting to tell stories too. That's why it's so hard when you can't write.

    1. Thanks Charity. You're absolutely right, it is hard when you have those pesky stories running around your brain and you can't sit down and write them out.

  9. I'm with you on that concept of telling stories. Even when what I write doesn't really seem like a story, somewhere within my writing is a story that is being told. As a writer it's up to me to tell my story in the best way and hope the reader can relate in some way.

Congratulations on having written a story to submit for the anthology. I thought about writing one, but I guess my thinking wasn't hard enough to translate into actually doing it--often the story of my life.

    1. You actually tell a lot of stories on your various blogs, especially the memoir one. And, you're right it's up to the writer to tell the story the best he can and hope to engage the reader.

      Maybe next year, eh?

  13. How exciting that you wrote a story for the anthology! Wishing you the best of luck. I agree that telling stories is what makes writing fun and most of the time the sleepless nights are worth it!

    1. Thanks Julie. Yeah, I can give up a few nights sleep, if I get a good story out of it.

  14. I love to tell stories, and I'm not insecure about telling anyone. I think next year I may try to enter the anthology. I also, am unsure how good I am. But it's the challenge and I have to stop selling myself short and let other people have a chance to tell me if I'm good or not. If that makes sense.

    1. You definitely should consider entering the Anthology contest. This year's theme was tailor made for me, so I couldn't hep0 myself. The trick is to let other people help you be better.

  15. Awesome! I hope your entry does well! But seriously, you LIKE the sleepless nights when characters keep you awake? I guess I've had one too many bouts of insomnia to truly appreciate that anymore. I used to like it.

    1. Thanks Crystal. Insomnia is a constant companion, so I'm used to it. At least when it can be productive with a story, it's worth it.

  16. I too love stressfully telling stories in my pajamas while characters roll around inside of my skull. And if that sounds as logical to me as it did to you, then there's no question that we're both writers!

    1. And it also means we both have a streak of psycho in our souls.

  17. Couldn't submit to the IWSG anthology (not a member) but I did submit to another one recently and, yup, just submitting is a bit of a high.
