G is for GOOD and BATTLE OF THE BANDS XVII RESULTS

G is for Good! Take a look at this yummy cheesecake. Does it look good?

Let me tell you ‘GOOD’ DOESN’T EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE IT.

Do you want to know how to make it? Do you want to find other scrumptious foods that you can make with easy recipes? Well, have I got a deal for you. Check out this blog Faiths a Foodie.

Faith is the daughter of a blog friend of mine who has entered the A to Z Challenge. Faith is an incredible chef in the making. Faith is funny, articulate, and very smart. Faith is twelve years old. You read that right, she’s twelve.
Relatively new to blogging, Faith decided to enter this year’s A to Z Challenge. I found her through her mom’s blog and started following. Now, I’m hoping that you guys will check out her site and follow her. I’m also hoping that you will include a few sentences about this wonderful kid and encourage others who stop at your place to check out Faith’s blog and also follow her. I would love to see her top 100 followers during this month, and you can help. Although, I’m not really participating in the A to Z this year (this post is just me crashing the party, for this one day), it’s my opinion that this is the type of thing A to Z is all about. Helping out and encouraging the new and aspiring bloggers. What could be better that encouraging someone so talented, who is also so young and fresh?

So take a few minutes and pop on over and visit Faith. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Find Faith at Faiths a Foodie

OK, now for the real business of today.

I’m late to my own party. So, what else is new? Lately, I’ve been running faster than I’m able and I’m still far behind. Needless to say I’m exhausted most of the time. I know…excuses…excuses…excuses.

Let’s get right on it then. BATTLE OF THE BANDS XVII was indeed one of my favorites here at Far Away Eyes. I love this piece of music, no matter who covers it. I also found it enjoyable that in this BATTLE so many of you had a hard time deciding. I have to admit I love both versions and find it difficult to cast my own vote.

In the end, I’m going to vote for the original/more traditional version played by Berliner Philharmoniker as Tomaso Albinoni intended. It is so haunting and beautiful. Because of my introduction to this piece, I’m reminded of a time in my life that was tranquil. I was fortunate enough to live in a marvelous place, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Hearing this music played this way takes me back to that time. At the same time, I want to comment that I think The Doors did a marvelous job with this piece of classical music, proving to the world that they had a very diverse background and were ‘real’ musicians.

The final tally including my vote for the original/traditional version is as follows:

Adagio for Organ and Strings as played by:

                Berliner Philharmoniker                                7 votes
                The Doors                                                   5 votes
There you have it another BATTLE OF THE BANDS. Come back on the 15th of April for BATTLE OF THE BANDS XVIII.

  1. That one was close.
Faith actually found my blog first and I didn't realize at first whose daughter she was.
    I blame Challenge brain fry.

  2. Woo-Hoo! I was on the winning side this time.

FAE, did you receive my Email, in which I stated that I am contemplating making 'BOTB #18' my last one in the series?

My voter turnout has dropped so low that I question whether the time investment in constructing 'BOTB' contests is worth the response.

Make no mistake, I LOVE the 'Battle Of The Bands' series and I would like to continue with it on my 'Ferret-Faced Fascist Friends' blog indefinitely. However, you, Lee, and Robin get far more responses than my blog does, and it hardly seems worth my time to construct a 'BOTB' installment that acquires only 8 reader votes.

So, depending upon the outcome (voter turnout), the next one on 4/15 may be my last. It was a great idea you had, and I loved every minute of it, but my blog really doesn't acquire enough reader participation to make the construction of these 'BOTBs' worthwhile.

We'll see how things go on the 15th. But, although I was one of the two founders of this project (along with YOU, the true originator of it), I think I may be the first one to discontinue it due to an obvious lack of interest at my blog.

    Yak Later...

    1. I did receive your email and have not had a chance to respond. sorry about that. (I have one I'll try to answer today.)

Well at least you won't be the first to drop out of BOTB. It appears that Larry is done and Robin is at least taking April off. Not the same level of commitment, I guess. You know how I feel, so I guess we'll just wait and see what happens.

  6. I love me a good cheese cake! And only 12? When I think about what I was doing when I was 12... well, what a world away! I'm going to try the hummus since it's something I like.

  7. I am so glad you made the cheesecake! It's so light and delicious. Looks like you did a great job of making it too. Thank you so much for doing this for Faith. I think she's amazing, but eh, aren't all moms supposed to think their kids are amazing?

  8. Let's convince Mr. McCarthy to continue despite votes. I've got at least another year's worth of BOTB installments in the wings and I'm going to keep going. I hate to go alone though. This is too much fun. I'm going to let Stephen know my feelings as the above comment is the first I've heard of this intention.

I expected the Doors to win this particular match-up. The choice was difficult though and tradition is hard to beat. This is the sort of Battle where I might have cast my vote differently depending on when I voted. That particular night was a Doors night for me.

Looking forward to the next Battle. Now off to the foodie blog.

    1. Thanks for going over to visit Faith. I know she appreciated it.

I really wasn't sure who would win this Battle. I really did have a hard time choosing myself. I love both versions.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens to BOTB in the future. There certainly isno reason you shouldn't keep it up, even if you are 'the last man standing'.

  10. We've both been faithful (pun intended) followers of Faith, but we've done so silently because we don't want her, at 12, reading our blog. Especially on post days like today. Not really kid friendly! But we do love her blog, and all of her awesome food!

    1. That would because you two are some of the 'good guys', no matter what anybody else says. Ha!

  11. I DO apologize to all of you for not getting back here sooner. This past week has been crazy busy. Thanks for your comments.

As always there will be another BATTLE OF THE BANDS tomorrow. I guess you'll have to stop by to see who shows up. I'll be there and I'm pretty sure your can count on Mr. McCarthy, at least one more time, and Arlee Bird seems to have no intention of quitting any time soon..
