Time for the results
of BATTLE OF THE BANDS XXI. I have to admit that I’m a tad bit disappointed in
the turn-out for this BATTLE. I do sincerely appreciate each and every one of
you who came by to cast a vote, but in the end there were only eleven (11)
votes. I don’t know maybe it was my choice of tunes, maybe it was the artists,
or maybe it’s just me. I never claimed to be one of the ‘popular girls’ but the
exposure this BATTLE enjoyed was just plain sad.
If you read my BATTLE OF
THE BANDS posts closely, you can generally tell who I will vote for in the end.
Sheboygan Six had me figured out in this one when he said, ‘I vote Linda
counterbalancing your future vote for Little Feat. Anyone that has kept and
loved that album that long GOTS to vote for FEAT.’ Yep! He called it correct. My vote goes to
Little Feat. I have always liked this band, and in particular this song.
Many of you thought it
was too slow. Mr. Bird even included a link to a version by Seatrain that is
quite a bit faster, only Mr. McCarthy defended the slower version. I too like
it nice and easy, and slow. It might be a ‘truck drivin song’, but it’s not
about barreling down the road, but more about the arduous task to getting from
one place to another, while leaving what you love behind. To me, at least, ‘Willin’
is more than a ‘truck drivin song’.
Alas, you guys did not
agree with me. The final tally is as follows, including my vote.
Little Feat 5 votes
Linda Ronstadt 7 votes
Come back on the 15th
of June and we’ll have another BATTLE OF THE BANDS. I hope you’ll enjoy my
selections a little bit more at that time, but be warned I have a rather
eclectic taste in music and I chose for myself, I’m not out to ‘WOW’ anybody.
Thanks again for your participation.
In my last few posts I’ve
been doing a lot of whining about moving (I hate that – moving and whining – I also
don’t really like talking about myself, but here I go again.), so I thought I
would give you guys a little update. I’m moved and starting to get organized. I’m
still on Lake Tahoe, I just moved around the lake a little (still in Nevada,
not California – gasp!). I have a bad shoulder (swimming) and it has been on
fire for a few weeks now, I’m tired and cranky, but what else is new, and I
still can’t find my flip flops, but other than that I’m settling in nicely,
thank you very much.
If you really didn’t
like ‘Willin’ don’t bother clicking on the following link, but I thought you
might enjoy a duet. I found this while entering into that time-suck YouTube. It’s
a live duet of Lowell George and Linda Ronstadt singing on some radio program.
It is actually a rather sweet version of the song. Not often that any of us are
able to find a duet between the two contestants in a BATTLE OF THE BANDS, eh?
I checked out a youtube with Little Feat and they are quite good, they had Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt helping out on the song.(Dixie Chicken) I like slide guitar. I voted for Linda but wanted to give the other group a listen with a different song, mainly because I hadn't heard of them before your BOTB and hubs had. Just so you know . . . and hope you find the flipflops.
ReplyDeleteI did find the flip flops, shortly after I posted this. Glad you did a little research on Little Feat. I really enjoy their music. Lowell George has worked with a lot of people in a very short career (he was only 34 when he died).
DeleteFEATS DON'T FAIL ME NOW!
ReplyDeleteI demand a recount-there must be some hanging chads you forgot to account for!
Larry
I felt the same way, so I did recount, but there was no having it. Linda was a favorite of this crowd.
DeleteSorry, I think I was on vacation when you posted the Battle of the Bands.
ReplyDeleteHope next week is better. Go buy yourself some new flip flops.
Catch you next time. Hope the vacation was fun.
DeleteCrap, I'm happy when I get ten comments- and half are my replies! But I fly a little more under the radar than you. I think vacation may erode into a lot of the contestant's tallies for a while.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're right about the vacation thing. Plus a lot of people are just fried after the A to Z thing.
DeleteI am glad you are settling in with your move. Sorry about your shoulder. I can relate. I pulled mine dancing and now I keep moving in ways that aggravate it. If I keep going at this rate it will be a LONG time before it heals up.
ReplyDeleteI think that your low vote count had more to do with people taking blog breaks and vacations than anything else. It could be like this all summer. Hang in there!
Summer does tend to be a little bit slower on the blogs and I think some folks are still recovering from A to Z. Mostly, I joking, but it is a little disappointing some days, this one in particular because it was such an ordeal to get this posted.
DeleteThe cat can be away and still makes it to every bay, but yeah blogland tends to slack off a bit until late August or so
ReplyDeleteYou are the exception to every rule!
DeleteNo flip flops for your Little Feat, eh?
ReplyDeleteLet the piggies roam free.
I'm surprised Ronstadt won this one.

I'm not surprised by Linda's win, she is one of the popular girls.
DeleteThe little piggies are still roaming free, but I did find the flip flops. Only you would pick up on the Little Feat connection Ha!
Sorry Hon, I haven't been consistent with this. I plan to post on June 15, but since I'm not blogging much, I don't expect a huge turn out. People on vaca doesn't help either.
ReplyDeleteSeems nobody is blogging much, well except the uber bloggers, who never seem to stop. We'll be looking for you on the 15th, whatever the turnout. Like you I've been swamped trying to get through all the 'Write Club' submissions.
DeleteLow numbers suck, but such is the nature of blogging. I think they'll probably bounce back, and I don't think it has as much to do with song choice as it does with traffic randomly increasing and decreasing. But I could be wrong. I've been wrong before.
ReplyDelete"I remember once in august 1993
I was wrong, and I could be wrong again"

Oh, and I actually like voting on the atypical, eclectic songs. Gives me more to think about.
Once, you were wrong once? I can hardly believe it.
DeleteI'm so glad to hear someone say that they like the eclectic song collection that I tend to post. I does give you something to think about. I've never really been a Top 40's kinda gal.
It's also the season of vacations. Maybe a lot of people were traveling.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that has something to do with it. summer is a busy time and it's also a time when our mind turns to other things than being cooped up at the computer, trolling the blogs.
DeleteWe visited Lake Tahoe several years ago, and both of us fell in love with it. So beautiful. Congrats on being done with your move. Hope you've found your flip flops by now :)
ReplyDeleteTahoe is beautiful, anywhere around the lake, but I prefer to stay in NV. I did find the flip flops and am enjoying the great outdoors. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd been here already, but there's a lot of things lately that I thought I'd done but didn't. I still prefer the more upbeat Seatrain version but that's the version I'd heard for years before hearing the others so it's the way it seemed like it should sound to me.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting settled in again. I've never been to Tahoe, but I've heard that it's nice.
By the way I'm beginning to hate my computer, my internet, or whatever it is that is making my online stuff interminably slow. Past two days have been horrible. Maybe I should go to Tahoe and throw my computer in the lake.
