RESULTS - WE GOT REAULTS HERE!

It’s the first day of spring, I’m not really here (I’m out-of-town), and it’s time for the BATTLE OF THE BANDS RESULTS. But, first let me ask you: Did you have a good St. Paddy’s Day? Raise a stein of Guinness? A shot of Jamesons? Please tell me you at least wore some green! Well, whatever at least twenty-one of you came by to vote. There’s a pretty good chance that’s an all-time record here at Far Away Series. I’m not much of a headhunter, so I don’t keep track of things like that, BUT I do appreciate each and every one of you.

Today I have another first here at Far Away Series – BATTLE OF THE BANDS. I HAVE MY FIRST TIE.

I cast my vote for Flogging Molly. I love their all-out rowdy sound. In this tune they are definitely a bit more subdued than normal, but they give a great finish.

Ben Currie’s version was very nice and very country (which I do not mind in the least), but just not the same rowdy fun.

The final tally is:

Flogging Molly             11 votes (including mine)
                Ben Currie                  11 votes

I love the idea of a tie. To my mind it says this was a really good BATTLE and you guys enjoyed both versions posted.

I’ll be back sometime next week with a ‘New Leaf’ post and then I hope you’ll all come back on April 1st, for my next BATTLE OF THE BANDS. Now, hope on around and see how the other BATTLES turned out.

And just in case you still need a little 'hair a the dog'; here's some Flogging Molly in all their rowdy glory with 'Drunken Lullabies'.

    1. Hi, thanks for stopping by. I sure do hope you're not trying to sell me something, or worse infect me with something; YIKES!

Your first tie? Dang! I've had at least 3, I think. But I don't really like 'em.

The ONE TIME I did kinda want to see a tie, The Edwin Hawkins Singers won. I thought it would have been kinda cool if Glen Campbell had pulled off a very "under-dog-rated" tie in that one.

    1. Personally, I don't mind a tie. I think it shows that I posted two pretty good versions of the same song. Actually, I'm just happy people come by to vote. I don't care what the turn out. I enjoy putting the BATTLES together. Even the shut-outs aren't so bad.

For me BOTB is about the fun and showcasing the music. The votes are so subjective, I rarely try to predict how my BATTLES will go. I do however, get a kick out of some of the comments, and the way people vote. I suppose they feel the same way about me. I just hope people are having a good time with it. I suppose when they stop having fun, they'll stop participating. THAT will be a bummer.

I do think I may have had a record turn out on this BATTLE (other than that one time when I was BLITZED, but that doesn't really count). I appreciate that, but never expect it.

  5. First off, for St Pat's day I was so sick I Was almost green. I don't even remember what I wore. Since I had my colonoscopy scheduled and had to watch my eating we even postponed our corned beef dinner until this coming week. I have a beautiful brisket waiting in the fridge and now just have to go buy some cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and Irish beer for a great meal on Tuesday that will probably last a few days.

My BOTB ended up in a tie as well. Like yours, I actually liked both versions almost equally. I could have easily gone for Flogging Molly, but so it goes. Good contest!

    1. YIKES! That sounded awful. I hate being sick (especially like that). I think about the corned beef dinners of St. Patrick's Days past (vegetarian for about 5 or 6 years now), but don't really miss 'em too much.

If you've read the other comments, you'll note that I don't mind a tie at all. Glad you enjoyed.

    1. I'm going to assume you're talking about 'Drunken Lullabies' and i that is in fact the case; it's a barrel of Flogging Molly fun.

  8. Wow, a tie! How cool! I did like both versions, but I just have more of a soft spot for Flogging Molly. And this song - yes yes yes, THIS is how it's meant to sound. Frantic! I feel like I've just had 10 cups of coffee listening to this!

    1. The normal Flogging Molly is kind of like 10-12 cups of Espresso and I likes it. Not always, mind you, but if I'm in the mood. Oh yeah!
