BATTLE OF THE BANDS RESULTS

This seven day period really went by fast for me. I finally made it around to vote in all the BATTLES taking place. With all the new members it is no longer a task that can be completed in a few hours, but I do enjoy it. I want to take a minute and welcome the new newest participants Jeffrey Scott and Madilyn Quinn. Glad you decided to join us and I hope you had a good time. I'll look forward to your BATTLES on July 1.

Before we get to the results, I wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate you continued support of BATTLE OF THE BANDS and particularly your support of MY BOTB. While I was traveling over the first of June I had intended to post a BATTLE and then some health issues kept me from doing so. That and a few other incidents recently had me contemplating giving up blogging. Thank goodness for a freind who talked me out of THAT.

I am going to only be posting BATTLE OF THE BANDS on the first and the fifteenth of July and August with the results posts on the following seventh and twenty-first respectively. I also plan to post for the IWSG on the first Wednesday of the month, but I think that's about all I can manage during the summer. We'll see what happens during the fall.

I've noticed that a lot of you are cutting back during the summer months so you probably won't even notice, but please forgive me in advance if I miss a post or two of yours, as I'm trying desperately to catch up and even get some writing done.

NOW, onto the business at hand. Poor ole Kris Kristofferson didn't get much love in this BATTLE. In fact, Johnny Cash, a buddy of his, beat him out by four to one.

I cast my vote for Kris and I'll tell you why. Personally, I'm not a big fan of either of these guys vocal talents. I think Johnny usually talks through most of his songs, and in a monotone at that. Kris did a lot of talking on this one too, and the tempo was slowed down to almost a crawl, but I really liked the instrumentation in his version. That overall slowness was at least a departure from the original, as though he was trying to make it something different.

This was certainly a BATTLE of the geratrics. Johnny was 68 when he recorded 'I Won't Back down, and Kris, who recorded it only recently for the TV series 'Texas Rising', is 78, so what do you expect. I gotta give them both credit for still putting themselves out there and doing what they love, even if that love isn't returned. As a side note Kris also has a role in 'Texas Rising' playing President Andy Jackson. How many of us will still be in the workforce of our chosen field at 78 years of age?

At any rate, it appears to be the opinion of at least one voter (I'm looking at you Mr. Six), that Kris should retire, or maybe he thinks he should have chosen a different career path altogether. It's kind of hard to tell as Mr. Six doesn't actually come right out and tell us exactly how he feels. Ha, ha, ha! (I love my commenters!)

The final tally was:

                                    Johnny               20 votes
                                    Kris                     5 votes (including mine)

Have a happy and safe rest of June. I'll see you back on Wednesday, July 1st with a double whammy of a post. Until that time; Happy Trails!

  2. Cash was a runaway hit.
I'm back to Mondays only, plus IWSG post day. Will be gone on vacation in July, so will skip a Monday then.

    1. Yeah, Cash really took this one. Ya gotta cut back sometime. Enjoy your vacation.

  3. Sorry I think I missed this battle of the bands, but selling one place and buying another was sucking up all my time. I would have voted for Johnny. IF...BTW, don't stop blogging, just go at your own pace. Hope the health issues improve. I'll be slow blogging, too.

    1. No worries D.G. In this BATTLE Johnny really didn't need any help. Buying/selling and worst of all moving takes it's toll. Hope things go well for you. Thanks for the well wishes. I think I'm on my way.

  4. Ha! Yeah, I too am still trying to figure out who Sheboyganboy Six was voting for in this Battle. He's a heck of a nice guy, but he needs to learn how to be a bit more direct. Why must we have to try reading between the lines and guessing at his true feelings?

There's nuttin' wrong with saying what you mean and meaning what you say.

As a matter of fact, there's also nuttin' wrong with meaning what you say and saying what you mean. (I think both of these concepts are valid.)

    1. I accept and like all comments. You don't have to love the tune or the artists; heck you don't even have to like 'em. I just appreciate the votes.

  5. Well, I saw the vote swinging hard toward Mr. Cash as more and more folks weighed, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

On a slightly related note (I'm reaching back a bit to a previous battle of yours), we got HBO free this weekend and one of the films I set to record was that time travel movie you used for a BoTB recently. I'm looking forward to watching it!

    1. Yeah, for the get-go Johnny had the lead and he never lost it. 4/1 is a pretty strong showing.

Let me know what you think about 'About Time'. I'm pretty sure you're gonna just love it.

  6. Cutting back? What's that?

Kris doesn't have to retire... he should just consider changing jobs. Just think of it like, "You don't have to go home, you just can't stay here." :)

Kidding aside, I hope your health issues have gotten better, and we're both glad to hear that you'll still be sticking around the blogosphere. It wouldn't be the same without you.

    1. Cutting Back? Ha,ha,ha! considering the frequency of my posts, I don't think anybody will notice.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, it's not as easy to get rid of me as it looks. ;-)

  7. So much going on in the summer for everyone. I usually take a slacker breaks in the summer, and a solid two-three month break at the end of the year. I'm slacking outrageously right now.

Sorry to hear you are having social problems that make you consider quitting blogging. I frequently contemplate my blogger activity, but just because I'm the anti social one, not because of rudeness from others. I hope you are feeling healthier. Sucks to be sick.

I sent you an e-mail. Hope to hear from you soon :)

    1. Got the 'e' and sorry that's not gonna work out, but next time for sure.

Yeah, I was really blindsided by the rudeness, but I'm over it now. Things are just so busy. Everybody says time is speeding up, but maybe I'm the one slowing down. Ha!

  8. I'm more of a Kris than a Johnny fan, but in this instance, I do think Johnny did it better, Obviously many people agreed. Kris' voice hasn't help up that well and maybe he should retire. (But I still love him.)
On another note, glad you're feeling better and I'm also happy to know that you won't be giving up blogging. The Blogosphere does slow down this time of year and that's a healthy thing! Better to get outside and enjoy the good weather, yes? Have a lovely summer!

    1. Thanks Debbie, I am having a lovely summer already. I love to be outdoors and it's hard to be in front of the computer.

  9. Hi Fae! I didn't like either version, but Johnny got through it faster and that's my best two cents. Oh wait - did I vote for him? Ha!

I think BOTB is the only thing I've done recently. Blogs on hold until I regain strength. Take good care of you. Enjoy writing time too, (smile).

    1. Hey Dixie, I hope you're feeling better and stronger soon. You gotta do what you gotta do and if you don't take care of yourself ain't nobody else gonna.

I have been to BATTLES like that; where I was voting of the lesser of to evils (or the shorter version, at least).

  10. Your points about Kris's version have caused me ask this important question, can I change my vote?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well,Bish, you CAN change your vote, but it really isn't gonna help Kris out in the BATTLE. He really took a beating. Kinda like the Alamo!

  11. If Kris would have skipped the singing and just directed the orchestra he might have one--the instrumentation was pretty good.

I might be cutting back more than I'd expected if my laptop keeps working like it has this morning. It's been tedious going. At least I already have most of my posts prepared ahead of time.

    1. Cutting back is always good. Sometime we think we have more to say than the blogosphere really wants to hear.

Ha, to the comment about Kris and directing the orchestra. He just might have won with this one had he done that.

  12. Kris wrote better music (someone will shoot me for saying that) but I'm not surprised that Johnny ran away with it. He's iconic and tough to beat, talk-singing and all.

    1. It won't be be a shootin', cause I'm right there with ya. The guy had a sense about some songs, but he was not really the one to perform them. Johnny was iconic, but I tend to think that a lot more was made about his background and personality than his real talent. Just sayin'.

    1. Thanks Cherie, me too. I too notice that a lot of folks take some time off during the summer and why not? Beautiful weather and a chance to get outside. Now, that's what I'm talking about!

  14. Thanks for the welcome. I am indeed having a lot of fun and have been planning a good number of songs for the coming months to battle. I also plan on using various genre's, not just pop, which is my forte.

    1. You are most welcome. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying yourself. It is, in fact, a lot of fun. I like to hope around to various genres also. Keeps everybody guessing. I think my next BATTLE, especially if it goes as planned, will change things up a bit. See you on the first.
