As promised, I’m here to cast my vote and give you the final
tally in my most recent BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB). This was a fun BATTLE, at
least for me. I like jazz, particularly instrumental jazz. When my friend Mr.
Sheboygan Six, suggested this song, I jumped right on it. I was familiar with
the instrumental versions (never heard the lyrics before I started researching
for this BATTLE) and enjoy them. I admit I was not well acquainted with Keith
Jarrett (he was part of the suggestions by Mr. Six), but when I gave it a
listen; I was WOWED! I love the piano and although it probably isn’t always
considered as jazzy an instrument as others, I likes it. On another day, I might
have cast my vote for Mr. Jarrett, but not today. (Don’t worry, I think he may
be back to fight again sometime.)
I do cast my vote for John Coltrane. The subtle texture
of that great sax with the piano lightly playing in the background make for the
perfect combination. It’s smoky, sexy, sultry, jazz at its best. I could listen
to this version over and over, and over a few glasses of good wine. Yeah, that
sounds like a perfect combination. Throw in some interesting lighthearted conversation
and it makes for a great evening.
This BATTLE proved to be a great combination with the ‘Lost and
Found Love Blog Hop’ and I appreciate all who stopped by to view my post, even
if some of you didn’t participate in BOTB.
The final tally:
John
Coltrane 19 votes (including
mine)
Keith
Jarrett 7 votes
Nat King
Cole 1 vote (not a real contestant)
Kind of a blow-out, but I take heart that a whole lot of you did
mention that you also liked Keith Jarrett’s version, just no enough to sway
your vote.
I’ll be back on the 15th with another BATTLE OF THE
BANDS that I hope you’ll enjoy. Seeing as how that’s only the day after
Valentine’s Day I think I might carry on with the idea of Love – lost or found;
you can be the judge.
Now that your finished up here go on around an check out the
other results posts to see how some of the other contestants fared.
In the meantime here's something from todays winner to tide you over until next tie.
Until we meet again…Happy Trails1
I missed this vote, sorry, but I would have voted for Coltrane, too. I've been swamped by administrative work. . .
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that, I've missed you, but your vote wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome. Coltrane won by a blow-out.
DeleteNot sure who I voted for. Don't remember what I had for dinner last night either...
ReplyDeleteI have days like that.
DeleteQuite the blow out indeed that took seed
ReplyDeleteYep, Coltrane ran off with this one.
DeleteColtrane has been a favorite for some time now. I like the way he arranges his music.
ReplyDeleteI decided to go with the 'blowout' idea this time too. Ironically I'm okay with it. Looking forward to Feb. 15th!!
Yeah, I don't really mind a blow out, although I still think the best BATTLES are the close ones.
DeleteNAT KING COLE doesn't get shut-out, even when he's NOT a contestant. HA!
ReplyDeleteNat and Satchmo always make noise in BOTB. They can be beaten, but not very easily or often, and they can NEVER be shut-out!

Ain't that the truth? Even when not in the running Nat can pull in a vote or two.
DeleteI have Coltrane, Jarrett, and Cole albums in my home music library and probably in equal numbers. I preferred Jarrett's version in your BOTB round, but they were all worthy selections.
ReplyDeleteGood job.

In a BATTLE like this one, it probably depends on the day or maybe the time of day that a vote is being cast. Both Coltrane and Jarrett were equally good IMO, just depends on the mood.
DeleteI'd call that a satisfying battle, FAE. Good stuffs!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteA few of my favourite things include choosing the winner in these battles and great jazz, especially with saxophones playing. Thanks for the battle, it was a great one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeffrey, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's always better when our own choice wins, eh?
DeleteVery clear results. Talk about a fun arrangement. We lived in Upstate NY for a while where Jazz is the thing. Everyone loved it. I missed my classical station. And my musical station. (This was before the days of epic online radio.)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Crystal. Online radio can be fun, especially when you put in a genre and they make the selections for you. some days I get a real kick out of their choices.
