Time to tally up the votes for this dismal BATTLE OF THE BANDS.
Dismal I say, because I do believe the best BATTLES are the ones that end up
the closest or in a tie. This folks was a total blow out.
I have to admit I’m surprised. But, then of course I am. I don’t
put these BATTLES together ever thinking they will be shut outs or blow outs,
but sometimes that happens anyway.
I like Neil Diamond and his version of this will always be the
best in my mind. I did try to give you two good and also diverse competitors
here, but admit that Chris does have a more Neil kind of sound. Me thinks, most
of you would agree. Someone mentioned that The Sidewinders sounded very sixties
and I also
agree, AND I happen to like their sixties sound.
I gave my vote to The Sidewinders, and a whole lot of good it
did them.
The final Tally”
Chris Isaak 14 votes
Sidewinders
5 votes including mine
I’m gonna have to think a little harder on these BATTLES and
come up with some really good ones for you guys. My numbers for voting were a
little down this time and I can understand why; not only was I (IMO) the most
lazy kind of blogger, in that I didn’t reply to any comments, but I also did
not make the rounds and visit many people this past week. I did vote on all of
the BATTLES of your good folks who voted on mine, but didn’t leave comments on
some of my other favorite blogs. I was a little under the weather in a manner
that made typing difficult the first part of the week, and spent the rest of it
trying to catch up.
I do want to direct you guys to some of the very best blog advice
that I read this past week; you can find it HERE Be sure to read the post of February 15th 'How to comment on the Internet without looking like a total dumbass'.
I’ll be back on March 1st with what I hope will be a more
exciting BATTLE,
Until then. . . Happy Trails!
I know the feeling of the lopsided contest. I think I may have had worse than this one. But I wouldn't count it as a bad battle by any means. My Battle this time around had results that I didn't expect, but I haven't tallied the votes yet so I'm not sure how it ended up. I'll let everyone know in my Monday post.

Well, you can't win em all.
DeleteIt's always interesting when someone puts together a BOTB they expect to be close, and it ends in a blowout. Especially if you end up voting for the blowout victim. I've been on the losing side of a blowout many a time, and if anything, it just shows how diverse music tastes can be.
ReplyDeleteOr at least I tell myself that so I don't start questioning whether I have terrible taste in music.
Also, that last bit about the advice, it sounds pretty reasonable but between you and me I believe those two may just be a pair of drunken idiots.
I've come to the conclusion that none of us really has terrible taste in music, but we sure to make some very diverse choices.
DeleteAs for those two drunken idiots. . . whatever one may think they saved me a lot of time and heartburn recently, by reminding me to just. . . 'shut the duck up'. Internet comments are worth just about as much as you pay for them. That's a big fat zero.
Well, at least it wasn't a shutout. If it's any consolation, I would have thought The Sidewinders would have had a better showing than this, also. I wouldn't have believed they could win, but I'd have expected a closer outcome.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that maybe Neil Diamond's original against the Chris Isaak cover might have made for a good Battle.
My vote count was down considerably this time, too. Oh well, they come and they go, come and they go.

Perhaps the contest you suggest would have been better, but I think pitting anyone against Neil would only have insured a shut out.
DeleteI doubt it. I don't particularly like Neil and I might well have voted for Chris Isaak.

But, then you might well have not.
DeleteOK, I just went and listened to both of them back-to-back to find out. And I can tell you now that I would have voted for...
Deleteone of them.
Ha! Yeah, I'm not sure. It would have been very close. Neil I can take or leave but I liked the horns in his version. With Chris, I liked the moodiness of it which seemed to fit the lyrics better.
Would have been a tough vote.

See, there you go. I very well could have had a shut out with that match up.
DeleteI was on vacation and did not contribute to the blowout!
ReplyDeleteThat you did not. I hope you had a good time on vacation.
DeleteQuite the blowout indeed. The beer guys have fine advice too.
ReplyDeleteYep, some really great advice.
DeleteWell, I'm sorry I missed this one. Not that it matters now, but my vote would have gone with Chris. (P.S. I've never much cared for Neil Diamond.)
ReplyDeleteYou know it seems like with Neil Diamond, you're either a fan or not,no fence sitting with him. Hope to see you on the first, hopefully it will be a better match up.
DeleteI've been under the weather the past week or so too. Been very hard to make every blogger I've wanted to. Also, my battle was almost more of a blow-out. I'm hoping coming up, I offer a more challenging battle for all.
ReplyDeleteSeems there has been a lot of that going around; must be the time of year. Blow outs are kind of hard to take, especially when you think you've put together a pretty good BATTLE.
DeleteI didn't comment on my comment this last battle either (and there were some excellent comments). I just felt like crap and couldn't muster the energy. So, I get it. Really get it.
ReplyDeleteI sent you an E. Let me know if you didn't get it.
Yeah, I understand completely, but I still hate it when that happens. I feel really bad about not responding. It seems like the least I could do, but not this time.
Deletegot your E and already responded.
I really like Neil's version the best, too. Glad Chris won! Can you believe it's almost March?!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Chris, I guess. :D
