'The Season of the Witch' proved to be a very interesting BATTLE indeed. For awhile there the two contestants; Lou Rawls and Dr. John were neck and neck, but near the end the good doctor pulled ahead and Lou just couldn't catch up.
I like Lou Rawls his voice reminds me of that pat of butter slowly melting and sliding down a short stack all gooey and covered in real maple syrup. Dr. John is a little bit more like fingernails on a chalkboard, BUT for this contest (it being the Halloween song and all) and this song, those fingernails on the chalkboard see more appropriate. The instrumentation in the Dr. John version was also more interesting and had a more creepy, Halloweeny ai to it and for those reasons it gets my vote.
The final tally:
Lou Rawls 8 votes
Dr. John 13 votes (including mine)
I'll be back on Monday, October 26th when I participate in Bish's 'Listing Blog Hop. See you then.
There will be another BATTLE on November 1st as we head into the 'real' Holiday season and I hope you'll be along for the ride..
I appreciate all the well wishes with respect to my health. I'm happy to report that I'm on the mend and the walking pneumonia has digressed into a very annoying head cold, but at least I can breathe, kind of.
Until the 26th...Happy Trails!
Good you are on the mend. I pretty solid battle indeed
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat, on both counts.
Deletesooooo glad you are feeling better! Breathing is important and you're doing it !!! yeah!!!
ReplyDeleteHey, so glad you stopped by. I have been cray busy lately and not doing much blogging, but I promise to come by your place and see what's up and say HI!
DeleteHang in there... it'll clear soon, and you'll have the added treat of feeling how sweet breath really is.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth. Thanks CW
DeleteSorry I missed it!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are participating in our hop on Monday.
I hadn't realized that you were a part of this Listing thing, but I'll see you there.
DeleteHope you get to feeling more and more like yourself as each day passes. Walking pneumonia is no joke, that's some serious stuff!
ReplyDeleteGreat battle, even though I voted for the loser. But Dr. John is very talented. Great song you picked!

These wee two good entries IMO, and besides, there is never a wrong vote. It's all in the eye of the beholder or should I say ear of the listener,
DeleteGlad to hear that you're getting better.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost surprised that the gravelly voiced Dr. John won out over the much easier to listen to Lou Rawls. Your description captures his vocal style well.
This was a great battle.

Thanks Arlee.
DeleteGlad to know you're getting better!
ReplyDeleteDr. John was my choice as well. It was a good battle over a fabulous song. Nobody does it like Donovan. ☺
Usually it is the case that the original is the best and that's why I generally don't use them in my BATTLES.
DeleteGlad you can breath again.
ReplyDeleteBut did you really have to make me all hungry for a short stack? I know what I want for dinner tonight. If I can only find an IHOP.
Ha, ha, ha!
DeleteYour vote was wrong, Poo-Poo Head.
ReplyDelete(But then what would I 'spect from a Poo-Poo Head?)

Who you callin' Poo-Poo Head, you ole Poo-Poo Head!
DeleteWhat's the deal with Stephen giving you all this poo-poo? Cut that poo-poo out; be nice to FAE. Good thing she's faraway.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! This was a sweet battle!! Good ole' Dr. John...
Glad you enjoyed the BATTLE, and pay no mind to the ole Poo-Poo Head himself.
