PANDORA

Yesterday, Pandora Radio reminded me of one of my favorite songs.

I wanted to name my first daughter Ophelia. I got vetoed, probably because I had already named a cat Ophelia. Anyway...first daughter has a weird name, it's just not Ophelia. Probably a good thing.

Enjoy. The Band and Ophelia.

    Excellent song!

But not such an excellent name.

I'm sorry to say so but, I'm kinda glad you got overruled (and I'll bet your daughter is too).

    Another great ‘Band’ song HERE.

Looks like your computer hasn't died with its boots on, so I guess I'll try to crank out a response to your last Email before my head smacks the pillow.

  2. I had three girls in three years. It took a lot to get The Husband and I to agree on the names... Never did get to use any of my boy names. (Even my cat's a girl!)

  3. OH pandora! I remember our first ever high school concert featured a band playing pandora covers. The place went nuts and people started jumping off stage and body surfing before the principle pulled the plug.

  4. My name picks for my son all got nixed by my husband. He wanted a normal name. I have a very normal name and I've always wanted an extraordinary name!

  5. If it was already the cat's name, then I can see why the name was shot down.
Pandora is so awesome. I've found so many new bands that way.

  6. Ophelia would have been pretty awesome, for the record. I'm all about unusual names.

  7. I can't write without Pandora on and have found (rediscovered) many bands, too.

We had three boys in five years and all three have similar names... (we put a quarter in the College Fund jar each time we get the name wrong... should have all of it paid off by the time the youngest is six :)

also, i like ophelia--has that hamlet connection--but then i had a really bad boss once named ophelia, and not that's the only person who comes to mind when i hear the name!

  9. Thanks everyone.

Love The Band - really like Pandora.

Names - I grew up with a common name. (If you'v ever gotten an email from me, you know it. Thank you Google) Anyway, I'm all about unusual, distinctive names.

At the end of the day, Ophelia would have been a very bad choice for this particular child. She has a very unusual name, but its NOT Ophelia.

  10. I love unusual, distinctive names too, so long as you aren't doing something like the hippies or celebrities do when they name their child something like Apple (I'm looking at you, Chris Martin/Gwen Paltrow).

    Also, great song.

  11. Faraway- I just attempted to tag you in the Lucky 7 meme. If you are not into it, no worries. Just thought of you. PS- I'm also pretty sure my tagging skills are lacking..

  12. Beer - Hah! This kid did end up with an unusual, distinctive name but it's not Love, Chastity, Moon Unit, or Ophelia. Not any kind of fruit for that matter either.

Jaybird - Thanks, I'll check it out,but a little overwhelmed right not. I do appreciate the thought!

  14. We made an agreement that I would name the boys and wifey would name the girls. We have all daughters so she did all the naming.

  15. The name Ophelia is very pretty, although it would be weird to have a cat named Ophelia and a daughter.

  16. A blast from the past! Thanks for sharing. Heck, even the classic rock stations don't play this tune from The Band.

  17. So? What is your daughter's name? And love your poetry. I can relate to your muse going bye bye. Mine just came back.
