J

‘WHAT ARE WORDS?’

J is for JUNKIE {a person suffering from drug addiction, most commonly used to refer to a heroin addict. A hyperbolic expression for a person with a particularly strong enthusiasm for some activity.}

While I will admit to you that I was once thoroughly addicted to a particular substance (not heroin), that’s not what I want to talk about. No matter how you cut it substance addiction is not a pretty sight. Stay away from addictive substances. One day you will want to quit (I promise, it’s true) and that’s a rough road. Unfortunately, I know that is true, too.

What I’m talking about is the second definition; a particularly strong enthusiasm. I know about this also, because I’m a ‘WORD JUNKIE. I love ‘em. Never let me near an open mic or blank piece of paper. It’s like Roger Rabbit. You know how he can’t not finish that toon tune ‘Shave and a Haircut’. (Do not tell me you have never seen Roger Rabbit – go directly to Netflix – do not pass go-do not collect $200, until you sit down and watch Roger and Jessica, Judge Doom, and the gang. Oh carp! I just HIJACKED my own comment) Well… that’s me with a blank piece of paper or an open mic. I can’t help myself and I can’t shut up. WORD JUNKIE – what can I say. ‘I’m not bad I’m just drawn that way’.

  2. I know, right? What do you do with food? Ugh

    And pornography is a drug you don't have to take to get a hit. Your mind does it for you. Nasty, nasty stuff. And just like drug addictions, it takes more and more (and kinkier and kinkier) stuff to get the same buzz. I've heard of more marriages destroyed by it.

  3. Without junkies, a lot of people in the rehab business would be without jobs to support their families. I tend to look at all things with a silver lining. Crime employs police officers and judges. Just think of what a world would be without any crime at all. A ton of jobs would be eliminated. What would people do that crave careers in those fields? What if no one needed help because everyone had their act together? What kind of world would that be? "Excuse me miss...would you like some help?" Reply: "No thanks. I'm fine."

  4. I love my thesaurus - whenever I write a word, there's always got to be a better one. Yeah... I think I might be a word junkie too!

    That is such a funny bit. Judge Doom is rapping out 'Shave And A Haircut', all except for the last two beats. Eddie Valiant thinks the Judge is "loony" until he looks over at Roger and he sees our hero shaking violently and starting to bug-out! TOO FUNNY!

    What a great movie - a modern classic!

  7. I want to go to the place in the background picture of your blog. Way to go for overcoming an addiction, but a word addiction isn't one you need to overcome. It's a good one.

  8. The word "dope" comes from dopamine, the chemical that floods the brain during certain activities: like winning a game, achieving something, or engaging in addictive behaviors.

    But I am a word junkie too!

  9. My worst addictions are movies, music, and Hot Tamales. Oh, and there's a few computer games that qualify me as a junkie.

    Oh, and since I already know who framed the rabbit, I'm going to stop and collect the $200 everyone else is ignoring, and then I'll--
