L

‘WHAT ARE WORDS?’

L is for LOQUACIOUS {talkative or chatty, especially of persons given to excess conversations)

FIRST, let me apologize for not visiting many of you yesterday. The Big Blue of the Caribbean was calling, so I went and spent the day at the beach. I’ll try to make it up to you today.

As a writer, you have to follow certain rules. Don’t use adverbs – ever. Adjectives –sparingly. Never ever use an exclamation point and those wonderful seventy-five cent words are an absolute no-no, unless you’re writing technical manuals.

Personally, I never met a seventy-five cent word I didn’t like. They are absolutely awesome and awe inspiring and amazing! I wish I could use more. Take today’s word LOQUACIOUS, it has a sensual sound as it rolls off your lips and to top it off, what better word to describe me. Oh yeah, I’m a rule breaker too, at least here on my blog, where rules are made to be broken.

  1. Loquacious is a wonderful word - I have used it often when writing school reports;-)

  2. Great word here. I just heard you could have exclamation points--in dialog--but no more than 3 times in the entire manuscript. It's like characters rolling their eyes. People really do that a lot, but it get irritating when you read it too much.

  3. No need to apologize... I know if I lived near a beach and it was warm enough to go spend the day on it, I would've done that too.

I'm okay with writers using exclamation points as long as they're not overusing exclamation points. They really only need to use one at a time and I see so many stories were the author used two or three or more on the same sentence. Too much.

  7. It's a wonderful word. Where are you in the Caribbean, if I may be so bold to ask? My family's been in and around Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands for over 100 years.

  8. I'm so envious of your beach! I'm a prolific abuser of exclamation marks when I'm conversing with someone, but not so much in my fiction (I hope). There's something about reading/hearing "you must do this/that/the next thing" that just makes me want to rebel!!!!!! << oops haha :)

Loquacious is indeed a very cool word to say. (Not sure if I spelled it right though.)
