Hey gang, remember when I told you that my first ever BATTLE OF
THE BANDS was posted because I had house guests and I only put up the two songs
because I had no time and didn’t want my blog too go al ‘whumpy’ for too long…well,
I have the same house guest again, yeah, two years later, and I have been busy,
busy, busy, running around and having a good time, so…here is the blog going
all ‘whumpy’ and neglected AGAIN. Sorry About that.
Anyway…the results are in for BOTB and the winner is…BEFORE I tell
you who won, I’ve got to say, I’m a little disappointed, because I love the
version by Astrud and she really took a beating in this BATTLE. It does seem
that most of you voted against the organ in her version and not really her
voice. I loved what Cherdo said about her; ‘Love her voice. It’s almost fragile
sounding.’ Yeah, that describes it perfectly; ‘fragile sounding’. I also love
the images her version conjured up for some of you. Go back read what Mr. Sheboygan
Six had to say. YEOWEE! That comment transported me back in time to a day when ‘my
daddy was driving my Uncle Matt’s Caddy around with a big ole stogie stuck in
his maw’. Anyway…I doubt youse guys wanna hear ‘bout that!
Here’s the results, plain in simple (and to my great
disappointment).
Sergio & Wanda 14 votes
Astrud 7 votes including mine
This BATTLE was my first big bummer!
BUT today I want to take the time to wish TSMOTP a great big ole
wet sloppy H-A-P-P-Y B-I-R-T-H-D-A-Y!
You know you are special!
Also, today brings a sad memory for me. Michael Patrick Gordon…you
will never be forgotten!
If it helps, I added Astrud's version to my spotify...

ReplyDeleteYeah, this Battle was super-disappointing. I dunno what to say except that... apparently romance and innocence are dead in the USA.
What is it about that cartoon chick that always makes me crave carrot cake?!
That reminds me... JESSICA RABBIT lost my 22nd BOTB contest to Peggy Lee. What IS this shit?!
I think I'm gonna quit BOTB. (YOU can yak ME out of it this time.)
A flyin' friend sent me a new-ish CD I've wanted for awhile by one of my all-time favorite Jazz & Blues guitarists. Unbeknownst to me, it contains a track with special guest MARIA MULDAUR. Woo-Hoo!
Also, track 5, an original titled 'BLUES ALLEY' is dedicated to "R.L.J." How many R.L.J.'s can there be? I'm gonna write him and see if it's really Chuck E.'s R.L.J.
Life is good. Thanks.

DeleteI don't think that's a cartoon! That might be the young woman who uses makeup to transform herself into Jessica Rabbit. I've seen her on YouTube and what she does is amazing!

She took a bit of a beating indeed, enjoy the running about with the houseguest
ReplyDeleteAt least she lost to someone deserving. I said it before and I'll say it again - it was a fantastic battle, and a damn pleasure listening to them both.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with your house guest! You can let the blog get whumpy, just don't get whumpy yourself.
I too love Astrud's voice and I enjoyed the organ as well. But as I said in my original comment the Mendes recording quality just came across as better creating a fuller more confident sound.
ReplyDeleteHowever if Astrud's version came on the radio (though I'd be surprised if it did), I wouldn't change the dial. Instead I'd be thrilled.

Tossing It Out
We just can't please everyone. I've been a wee bit disappointed by some past results myself...
ReplyDeleteJessica Rabbit: "I not bad, I'm just drawn that way."
I am glad they won:) I love the song and hope you don't mind, but I created a card using your song choice as my inspiration. I hope you can check it out:)
ReplyDeleteI've been doing good in my picks this week, and it's true the organ was not a big hit. But I think in BOTB, you have to take everything into consideration. The voice as well as all the instruments used.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy time with the house guest.
Nice bloog
