Well here we at the end of October 2012
and writers all over the world are getting ready to participate in NaNoWriMo,
but not me. I’m a little bummed. I had such a great time last year that I
thought nothing could stop me from participating again this year, but alas I am
not prepared.
OK, I admit it, I’m a wuss. I let life
kick me to the curb in 2011. A nasty health issue and life in general.
Sometimes, I think maybe I feel things too deeply. Maybe I lack something
essential to ‘take it on the chin’ and keep on going. I don’t know, but I do
know that I’m vertical now and gonna try to stay that way.
For a minute I thought maybe I can come
up with a small nugget of an idea and apply some pressure, you know, write to a
prompt. Writing 50,000 big ones to a single prompt with no outline… probably not.
Still hopeful, I asked a friend for ideas and although I did get a pretty good
one, my friend also asked if I was a writer or a wanna be; and if I thought of
myself as a writer, why didn’t I spend November getting last year’s project up
and running and out the door, instead of hiding behind a new project. I got the
message. I didn’t particularly like it, but it was true, I was hiding out.
So, I dug out my note from another
blogger who is brave enough to think they might want to be my CP. Of course,
when I started to send them a note, I remembered that they live on the Jersey
Shore (are you kidding me?), so we probably aren’t going to connect for awhile,
but I sent that email anyway.
I have a few pages of critiques from
various contests that I won, so I have a place to start. Wish me luck. I’m
gonna see this through to publication.
Also, I want to wish a whopping GOOD LUCK
to all of you who are prepared enough and participating in NaNo, this year. I
sincerely hope it’s as good for you as it was for me in 2011. Hang in there.
You can do it!
You've got a project - just use November to get it done.
ReplyDeleteI'm not participating this year either because I'm busy editing. But I did do BuNo in June. (Which is why I am editing now!)
I don't do nano because I already know I can't write a novel in 30 days. It's just not my style. But good luck to all those that do!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing NaNo. I don't have a story idea yet so I have no idea how it'll go but it'll be an interesting experience.
ReplyDeleteMe no NaNo neither.
ReplyDeleteI salute everybody who gives it a go, but I know this does not suit my creative process.
Nevertheless, I may end up working on a new project in November. I'll just be working on it at my normal pace. (ie: 4-5 months for a first draft)
Whatever you write this month will be a successful endeavor!
I'm sitting out NaNo too, but I'm hoping to be writing on some already in progress works. I need to complete something.
ReplyDelete......dhole
"Maybe I feel things too deeply." Maybe you do. But is that wrong? Are you experiencing the pain of too much caring?
ReplyDeleteI tend to jump to new projects instead of revising more. I've been toggling back and forth, but I need a break from editing.
ReplyDeleteI don't have the time to write every day in November. But I will be doing some writing. I need to go visit mom and dad in good ole Idaho Falls for Thanksgiving and I'll be there a week. However, I shall think of you on your tropical island while I'm shivering in the cold.
ReplyDeleteUm, Pied Pipers! Hope your CP is okay.
ReplyDeleteAfter putting it off for so many years, I have decided to do it. I'm so crazy. I'm moving in January, yet I need some motivation to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteI'm skipping Nano myself. Cheering from the benches though!
ReplyDeleteHEY. DIRT CHEAP FLIGHTS SJU to NYC. I bet I can get you a free ride to SJU. Hope, Skip, and a Jump to Jersey Shore......build it, they will come.
ReplyDeleteI am another Nano hold out. Last year, while everyone else going for the 50K, like you, I gave myself a goal for a current project. It was the right decision. You read the draft query letter for it today. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S.: Six inches of snow overnight. After the freezing rain. That's another reason for not doing NaNpoWriMo, It's StofHibMo (Start of Hibernation month) for us Bears. What could be more natural?
ReplyDeleteI'll happily support anyone who attempts it, but personally, it's not for me. Quality over quantity I always say. But kudos to those willing to brave it!
ReplyDeleteHey girl! I did not forget about you. Send your stuff over. Right away..I may have sketchy power right now, but I am willing to jump in and look at what you have asap. xo
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm very excited to do this for you!!
