EXTRA POST - Wednesday, December 7 - The Insecure Writers Support Group

One of the things I'm insecure about is that I don't know how to post the little square icon WITH the link for this group. I've spent three days trying to figure out how to do this for another icon/link and it's just not happening. I emailed my computer guru/geek and they are not answering me. One of the blogs I follow has got to think I'm stalking them because I've been back so many times trying to figure this out.

IF you can TELL ME HOW TO DO THIS in terms a BLOND, CYBER-CHALLENGED individual CAN UNDERSTAND. Please HELP. Keep in mind I know how to 'lift' the picture of the icon and re-post it, but I want the link to come along for the ride. So you click on the icon and it sends you to the place that will explain it all.

That said; If you want to know more about 'The Insecure Writers Support Group' click here, www.alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com It's not as sexy as having the icon but it gets the job done.

INSECURITIES

I'm seriously struggling with keeping up the productivity after NaNoWriMo. I was prepared for a little 'let down' but this is epic. I don't expect to keep up the pace I was working at for those 30 days but I didn't expect to hit a brick wall either. The doubts are monsters. I know the work needs a ton of editing but there is some really good stuff there,I just can't seem to stay in the characters heads.

Any suggestions? Anybody?

My only suggestion is that I need a new playlist. I know a lot of people say they can't listen to music when they write. I can. My WIP is written from several different POV's. I have one song that so totally fits one of my characters. When I write him, I put it on repeat and I have no trouble finding his voice. I suppose the answer is to find music for each character and go that way. First,I need to find patience.

Does music work for anyone else?

During NaNo JP at Where Sky Meets Ground held a Songfest. I went there every morning to see what his song was for that day. Crazy, but it helped.

What's your song today? Tell me,tell me,tell me. Maybe it will help.

Here's mine.

  1. Unfortunately I can't help you with the brick wall - I hit that after two weeks into NaNoWriMO, but I can give you a link to a tutorial for making an image a link -

  2. I'm in the same place as you. I haven't written a word since November. Yet I haven't had any time! All my shopping is done and cards are out though. Hopefully I'll get a chance on... Sunday, maybe?

Sometimes it helps me to imagine my characters in situations outside the story. Throw them into your favorite TV show and see how they react. It might be enough to amuse you and allow you back into their heads.

I have Modest Mouse's Float On in my head since I heard it on the radio this morning.

  3. I always write to music, so maybe shaking up the playlist is in order.
If you right-click on the IWSG badge and 'save as' a jpg image, you can upload it to your post and also add it as a picture to your sidebar with a link to the main list page.
Or is that not what you're stuck on?

  4. Hi! So glad you stopped by my blog and commented so I could follow you here. I love the island theme of your blog...so jealous! I don't listen to music when I write. I need things quiet to get in a writing zone. Congrats for doing NaNo! Well done, now take a rest, you deserve it.

  5. Brianna: Thanks for the info.I went to the site and they said that forum was closed. Technology hates me.

Christine:Went to You Tube listened to 'Float On' - Alright!

Alex: I Finally got it because a friend came by and showed me where to get the link 'Duh!' Told you I was blond and cyber-challenged,but finally, I DID IT!

Karen and Karen: Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you again.

I thought iTunes was gonna love you guys to death and only one person came up with a song.

  6. Well look at you...all geeked out now! :) That badge sure looks purdee up there!

When I finish a first draft it feels like I'll never want to write again, but then the urge slowly returns. It must be some sort of self-preservation thing. ??? Anyway, don't put pressure on yourself...it will come.

  7. I feel like I've just taken a vacation after visiting your blog. Almost dived into that water. Lovely.

As to the recovery after an intense writing session, I take a hike. I'm a bit of a hiking nut, but it's one thing that brings me to center and back to where the good words are. Good luck and thanks for the visit to the Write Game. See you around the blogosphere.

  8. Great song; love the Eagles. I can write to almost any noise (not my kids yacking at me though), and frequently do write to music. When I’m concentrating I tune everything out, then slowly let it all drop back in when I get my thoughts down - or just need a break.

Perhaps you just need a break after all that intensity. I’m sure the ideas will start to flow when you’re not putting so much pressure on yourself to keep going. Congratulations on finishing NaNo; and early to boot. (Yeah, I still use the phrase “boot up” too. Comes from living with a computer nerd. Either that or I‘m just that old . .)

Hang in there Faraway; things usually work out the way they should. I’ve enjoyed browsing your blog and reading your posts.

  9. Songs don't help me...I tend to tune off from writing to just listening. After NaNo, a slump is inevitable, take a break, edit your project and you will be back with more words to pour.
    Thanks for the follow. :)

  10. I've had those let downs and sometimes you just have to go with it and take a break. Do some blogging instead and visit new people. That's what I do. I take four to six weeks off of writing a year. Got to. Otherwise I might start to lose my marbles whoob boop boop (bad Curly imitation).

  11. DL: Geeked out. That's actually a compliment, considering I'm probably one of the most technologically challenged individuals on the planet. Thanks for the advice. I know I need to back away, but it's hard.

Elemm, REK and Stephen: Thanks for stopping by and nice to meet you. I may need to 'take a hike'. The consensus seems to be back off and take it easy. Been trying that and I'll keep it up. It's a hard job but somebody's got to do it.
    Right?

Donna:Thanks for stopping by and browsing. You had to dig deep to find that"boot up" comment. I like that. I tend to do the same. Get to know a blog. You are absolutely right about how things work out. Not always the way we want them to, but the way they are supposed to.
